Benny deMayo, an 18 year-old senior at Palisades Charter High School, started playing the clarinet in the third grade at Palisades Elementary Charter School. Since then, he has had many wonderful musical opportunities. He attended Arrowbear Music Camp from 2008-2010, and Idyllwild Arts Summer Program in 2011. He began studying at the Colburn School of Performing Arts in 2009, when he joined the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Darren Mulder, and is now co-principal of the Wind Ensemble and the Colburn Youth Orchestra directed by Maxim Eshkenazy. In addition, he has participated in the All-Southern California Honor Band since 9thgrade and the California All-State Honor Band since 10th grade. He attends Palisades Charter High School, where he is principal clarinet in the wind ensemble and concert band, and a section leader in the marching band. In elementary and middle school he studied with Mandy Fey, and he now studies with Amanda Walker. Aside from playing the clarinet, Benny swam competitively for six years and has been an LA County Junior Lifeguard for four years. He has also worked in the study center at his school tutoring students in math and Spanish. He would like to thank his teacher Amanda for her tireless guidance and support, the Culver City Chamber Orchestra for the unforgettable performance opportunity, and his parents for providing him with such a beautiful musical experience.
